Dear Dance Educators:

The Department of Dance in the Herberger College of the Arts at Arizona State University is pleased to invite you and your students to participate in the 59th Annual High School Dance Symposium on Saturday, October 30, 2004 in the Physical Education Building East on the ASU Main Campus. Join us for this unique opportunity for students to experience dance in a stimulating university atmosphere. We are excited to offer 20 classes including such workshops as Hip-Hop, Capoeira, performance coaching, core conditioning and massage. It will be an enriching day full of dance, culminating in an informal dance concert by ASU students. You also have this opportunity to network and exchange ideas with other educators, and it allows me insight as to how Arizona State University can help meet needs in your community.

To reserve a place for your school, please return the enclosed registration card and a check for $90.00 payable to “ASU Dance” by October 10th. The popularity of this event requires us to limit attendance to nine students from each participating school. This year we are instituting on-line registration for classes. When we receive your check, we will e-mail you a code. This code provides entry to the HSDS website where you can register your students for their classes. Student class placement is first come first serve, so send in your forms with your check early.

Please remind students to dress and pack appropriately for an action-packed day of dancing, including any first aid supplies you frequently use (band-aids, tape, bandage, etc.). Students may bring a sack lunch or purchase lunch at the many fast food restaurants in the MU. We highly encourage you to bring plenty of bottled water.

Parking for cars and school buses has been arranged in lot 42. A campus map, schedule of the day’s activities and school registration form [see above note] are enclosed. A release form is also included for you to duplicate and distribute to participating students. These must be completed and signed by parents in order to participate. Please call me at 480-965-2512 if you have any questions.

Thank you for promoting student development and artistic growth. We look forward to sharing an exciting day with you!

Regards,

Dr. Mila Parrish,
Symposium Director
