TIPS FOR NEW GRADUATE STUDENTS
We are delighted that you have chosen the MFA program in dance at the ASU Herberger College of the Arts. We hope that you are as excited about this new year as we are!

The following are tips we think would be helpful as you prepare for your first year in the program.

1. Banking

Bank One, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America are major banks in Arizona. ASU students are also eligible for credit union accounts at Desert Schools Federal Credit Union and Arizona Federal Credit Union. Both Wells Fargo and Arizona Federal Credit Union branches are accessible on campus. If you are employed by ASU, we recommend that you have your check direct deposited so that you will not have to worry about depositing your checks during winter break.

3. Transportation
Please contact Parking Services at (480) 965-6406 for information on parking decals. You will not be able to secure parking until you are a registered student.
Many students will opt to use bikes. Tempe is friendly to bikes and there are racks all over as well as on campus. Bike shops in Tempe include Tempe Bike and Dominics Cycling, both located near the Nelson Fine Arts Center.

4. ASU ID Cards
You must get an ASU ID card during orientation. ID’s are obtained in the Memorial Union (near southeast entrance, ground level). Hours of operations M-F 8-5. Your ID is used for a library card, admission into the Student Recreation Center, and also Teaching Assistants and Research Assistants get a 10% discount at the ASU Bookstore. Options you can get on your Sun Card include AT&T calling card and/or Sun Dollars that can be used in the bookstore, copy machines, vending machines and eating establishments (both on and off campus). You must carry with your ID with you at all times while on campus.

5. Student Health and Wellness Center
As an ASU student you are eligible for care whether or not you have any health insurance. In most cases there is no charge to see a physician or nurse practitioner. However, there is a charge to your ASU account for lab, x-rays, medications, supplies and certain treatments. For information regarding Student Health Insurance please visit the Student Health and Wellness Center.

6. Child and Family Services
Child and Family Services (CFS) develops and coordinates services for ASU students with families. You may obtain additional information on childcare referrals and children’s programs by contacting CFS at (480) 965-9515.
