Study Abroad Experiences

ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts dance students have spent summers, winters and semesters studying in countries such as Spain, Australia, Bulgaria, India, the United Kingdom. Browse the Study Abroad Website as well as the International Programs Office Web site for a full list of summer, winter and semester opportunities.

Additionally, the School of Dance now offers a unique summer study abroad program in China. Students study Contemporary Modern Technique, T'ai C'hi, Chinese Folk Dance, and the History and Philosophy of Chinese Dance. Students also observe classes at Beijing Dance Academy, Nationality University, Yunnan University of the Arts, and LDTX company class and rehearsal. Time is divided amongst cities such as Beijing, Xi'an, Kunming, and Hong Kong.

Weekend excursions may include the Forbidden City, Tian'an men Square, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Great Wall of China, Terracotta Warriors, or the Stone Forest. Biking, hiking, eating, and shopping are also part of the agenda. The program, created by ASU Dance professor, Shouze Ma, and former graduate student, Martha Howe, began in the summer of 2007.
