Teaching Assistantships

As a graduate student, upon application or acceptance in the MFA dance program, you may request consideration as a Teaching Assistant (TA). To be considered, you must complete one semester of Graduate Dance Pedagogy course, and submit a teaching portfolio by the end of the first semester in the program.

TAs independently instruct dance courses for primarily non-major university students. Assistantships are awarded for one year with the possibility of renewal.

The assistantship carries with it a minimum salary determined by various university administrative units. The assistantship percentage also determines the maximum number of credit hours for which a student can be registered. The availability and number of assistantships for students are determined by the unit’s annual budget, necessary course offerings, and the graduate student’s success within the degree program.
