Specialization

Specialization
Requirements for Degree
Program of Study

Study in the major field takes place with a faculty of national and international reputation whose artistic careers span both the traditional and contemporary spectrum of choreographic approaches.Course work explores improvisation, choregraphic structures, working with composers and using mediated performance.  Students  focus on developing choregraphic skills from the freshman year through the capstone senior year choreography project where they are asked to assume creative and production responsibilty for the culminating public performance of their final work.

The Department supports ongoing student choregraphy projects through the production of 12-14 formal and infomal concerts per year. Showing of work takes place through out each semester varying from site specific work, to works in progress to finally fully produced theatrical concert dance. Students are encouraged to show their work in many stages of development before faculty and peers where they will receive helpful comments, encouragement and suggestions for further growth.

Auditions

Audtion into the Choreography Concentration takes place in the fall and spring of the sophmore year.
