Uniqueness of the Dance Studies Program at ASU
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Studies Program offers sufficient flexibility to allow students to tailor a degree plan that is highly individualized. The broad interests of the faculty and the range of course offerings ensure a breadth of experience in the field. Study in the major field takes place with faculty of national and international reputation. Through orientation course work, careful advisement, and guidance from the faculty, students are assisted in discovering their unique goals in the dance field.

Description of the Major
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with Dance Studies specialization is designed to provide a broad, balanced, general education with emphasis in the field of dance and at least one related area. Upon completion of this training, each student should be able to formulate a personal philosophy of dance and design and conduct original investigations in the field.

Career Opportunities in the Field
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree dance studies specialization permits students to pursue the more academic aspects of dance with the aim of deepening the student's cultural, theoretical, and aesthetic awareness. Students in this degree program complete 18-20 credits devoted to the related field and are encouraged to pursue areas that combine their particular interests and career goals in dance. The study of psychology in relation to an interest in dance therapy or the study of exercise science in preparation for graduate work in dance kinesiology are examples of the use of the related field. With this preparation in dance and other areas of interest at the undergraduate level, students are equipped to work in several dance-related areas or to pursue more advanced and specific study at the graduate level.
