Uniqueness of the Performance Specialization at ASU
Study in the major field takes place with a faculty of national and international reputation, capable of working with students at the professional level. Students also work closely with visiting artists who come to campus and set works each year. An ambitious annual schedule of a minimum of fifteen departmental concerts allows students ample performing and choreographic opportunities.

Dance Arizona Repertory Theatre (DART), the department student dance company, gives Dance majors the opportunity to perform and tour in the metropolitan area, state, and region. Affiliation with the American College Dance Festivals has resulted in student performers from ASU taking top honors at regional and national levels.

Description of the Major
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a specialization in performance is a pre-professional program permitting concentration in the field of dance as a creative art form with further emphasis in performance. Upon completion of this training, each student should be able to enjoy a life of continuous growth and creative exploration, have a desire for knowledge in diverse areas, and be able to formulate and express original ideas and a personal philosophy of dance. Those who wish to perform should be able to move in a disciplined, free, and articulate manner.

Career Opportunities in the Field
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance with a specialization in performance places greater emphasis upon the major field and is intended for the student who wishes to become a professional creative and/or performing artist. An intensive and comprehensive program of 79 credits in the major field is required. Upon graduation, opportunities for professional participation in the field exist in regional, national, and international companies.
